Storytelling Competition (English)

General Information

  1. The competition is open to active university students (Diploma, Undergraduate, or Postgraduate), both local and international.
  2. Participants must ensure that all submitted registration data is accurate and valid.
  3. By registering, participants agree to comply with all rules and regulations stated in this document.

Registration

  1. Registration must be completed through the registration link provided by the committee.
  2. The participants must upload a student ID card and a formal photograph with a shirt (or official varsity jacket if any).

All registered participants must attend this Zoom session.

The session includes:

Competition Format

The competition consists of two stages:

1 Preliminary Round

Story Theme

  1. Participants must choose one original folktale from their country of origin.
  2. The story must be delivered in English.

Preliminary Round – Video Submission Rules

  1. The participants must join the provision session on Zoom Meeting.
  2. The storytelling performance must be delivered fully in English.
  3. Duration: Minimum 3 minutes – Maximum 5 minutes.
  4. The video may be recorded using Zoom or any other recording platform.
  5. The registered participants must submit the video using YouTube or Google Drive link to the submission form provided by the committee.
  6. Video quality must be at least 720p (HD).
  7. The video must be recorded in one take (no editing, no cuts, no background effects).
  8. Participants are not allowed to receive assistance from any other person during recording.
  9. Participants must introduce themselves (full name and university), mention the title of the story. These must be stated at the beginning of the video.
  10. Participants are not allowed to read from scripts, cue cards, or notes.
  11. The use of properties (props) is allowed to support storytelling.
  12. Audio must be clear and free from disturbing background noise.
  13. The content of the story must not contain elements related to SARA (ethnicity, religion, race, inter-group conflict), discrimination, or harmful stereotyping.

Grand Final Rules

  1. Finalists must perform LIVE (onsite or online) in front of the judges and audience.
  2. The story must be the same as the one submitted in the preliminary round.
  3. The duration of the performance is 3–5 minutes.
  4. More elaborate props are allowed, but no digital background or pre-recorded audio.
  5. Participants must attend the technical meeting; absence may result in disqualification.

  1. The competition is open to active foreign university students (non-Indonesian citizens) currently enrolled in higher education institutions.
  2. Participants may be: International students studying in Indonesia, or Students studying outside Indonesia.
  3. Participants must ensure that all submitted registration data is accurate and valid.
  4. By registering, participants agree to comply with all competition rules and regulations.
  5. Judges' decisions are final and cannot be contested.

The story themes are:

  1. 2. Participants must create an original storytelling performance related to Indonesian culture, values, folklore, or contemporary social themes.
  2. 3. The story must be delivered fully in Bahasa Indonesia.

Preliminary Round – Video Submission Rules

  1. Duration: Minimum 4 minutes – Maximum 7 minutes.
  2. Video quality must be at least 720p (HD).
  3. The video must be recorded in one continuous take (no cuts, no editing, no visual effects).
  4. Participants must: Introduce themselves (full name, university, country of origin), Mention the story title, Declare that the story is original.
  5. No scripts, cue cards, or visible notes are allowed.
  6. No assistance from other individuals is permitted.
  7. Physical props are allowed.
  8. Background music, dubbing, subtitles, or sound effects are not allowed.
  9. Audio must be clear and free from disturbances.
  10. Content must not contain SARA elements, discrimination, political propaganda, or harmful stereotypes.

Preliminary Round – Video Submission Rules

  • check Content must not contain SARA elements, hate speech, discrimination, political campaigning, or harmful stereotypes.

Grand Final Rules

  1. Finalists must deliver their speech LIVE (onsite or online) in front of the judges and audience.
  2. The duration of the speech is 4–6 minutes.
  3. No digital presentation tools, background music, or supporting performers are allowed.
  4. Participants must attend the technical meeting; absence may result in disqualification.
